What We Do
The Food and Resource Economics (FRE) research group seeks to address the challenge of sustaining a growing global population with a limited set of natural resources while maintaining a healthy environment. We use environmental economics as a tool for harnessing market-based policies to manage the impacts of economic activity on the environment. We study the complex interactions between institutional design, producer and consumer behavior, and public policy to help craft strategies to balance economic growth with environmental protection. Faculty and students in our group research topics related to wildlife conservation, economic development, agriculture and the environment, fisheries, and trade. We offer programs in applied economics with a focus on agriculture, the environment, and natural resources. We work with policymakers, practitioners, and researchers from many disciplines.
Food and Resource Economics Research Seminars
We have a weekly research seminar in which faculty, graduate students, and invited speakers from institutions across the world present new and cutting-edge research on the economics of food, resources, and the environment. Click here for a link to the most recent program.
